Peter Bialobrzeski turns his gaze on the city of Osaka, the traditional economic hub of Japan, and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world with more than 20 million inhabitants. Capturing its wide boulevards and hidden back-alleys, Bialobrzeski’s images reveal a city in constant flux. Osaka Diary was shot between 17 – 23 August 2015 and is the 10th instalment in the City Diary series.

City Diaries is a joint publishing project between The Velvet Cell and award-winning German photographer Peter Bialobrzeski. Releasing approximately two books a year, each diary focuses on a single city, somewhere in the world, against the backdrop of a rapidly urbanising world. All books in the series maintain the same size, dimensions and page count.

Peter Bialobrzeski is a world-renowned photographer and the recipient of several awards including the prestigious “World Press Photo Award” in 2003 and 2010. He is also the author of over ten photobooks, including “Neon Tigers”, “Heimat”, “Lost in Transition” and “Paradise Now”.
