Peter Bialobrzeski turns his gaze on the city of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, the fourth-most densely populous city in the world with a population of over 21 million residents in the Greater Dhaka Area. Capturing its crowded streets and back-alleys, Bialobrzeski’s images reveal a city in constant state of development. Dhaka Diary was shot between 21 Feb – 1 Mar 2019 and is the 11th instalment in the City Diary series.

“The trip from the airport into the city takes almost as long as the flight from Dubai to Dhaka. Rickshaws, cars, buses and two wheelers clog the road in a never ending traffic jam” – 20th Feb 2019

City Diaries is a joint publishing project between The Velvet Cell and award-winning German photographer Peter Bialobrzeski. Releasing approximately two books a year, each diary focuses on a single city, somewhere in the world, against the backdrop of a rapidly urbanising world. All books in the series maintain the same size, dimensions and page count.

Peter Bialobrzeski is a world-renowned photographer and the recipient of several awards including the prestigious “World Press Photo Award” in 2003 and 2010. He is also the author of over ten photobooks, including “Neon Tigers”, “Heimat”, “Lost in Transition” and “Paradise Now”.
