Whem Frankfurt-based artist Peter Roehr died in 1968 at the tender age of 23, he left behind a highly coherent oeuvre. He created montages using photos, text, typography, objects, sound and film drawn from materials he found. These montages explore the concept of seriality.
The exhibition "Peter Roehr – Werke aus Frankfurter Sammlungen", organized jointly by the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst and Städel Museum in Frankfurt/Main, aims to show that Roehr's strict formalism is much richer and contains many more stories than might seem to be the case at first glance.
The catalogue "Peter Roehr", accompanying the exhibition, contains an extensive section with illustrations of works as well as essays and commentaries that examine the artist's work from the perspective of art history while also leaving space for the personal memories of some of Peter Roehr's erstwhile companions.
