This is the first volume to present Franz Gertsch's whole work from his first drawings as a child to his late, mature work.
His paintings appear as a paradox: larger than life-sized and with extreme precision his motivs are presented. Evoking an aura of presence, only at an extremely close glance, the pictures suddenly appear much more blurred than expected. They dissolve into a myriad of colored points and carves.
In no other work, appearing and disappearing of figures and objects are that close. Only in Franz Gertsch's paintings, the direct contact to reality and its mysterious existance becomes clear.
