burg – Pictures from the Archive], taken by
12 photographers. Actually, the photographs featured in this book are there almost by chance, united solely by the fact that they
are from the inventories held by the Fotohof archiv. Likewise, the choice of motifs was not dictated by an effort to come up with a valid image of the city; its aim, rather, is to showcase a typical cross-section from each particular artist’s oeuvre. Only the sequence of photographs in the book is in chronological order, in keeping with the main thrust of both the publication itself and the eponymous exhibition: namely, to correlate the artists’ works, their individual styles, with the temporal and geographical context in which they were created.
