Gunter Rambow – Plakate/Posters
This exhibition-catalogue presents Gunter Rambow's various posters, that he created during the last fifty years.
Rambow is mostly associated with advertisment for culture, having designed many posters for theaters, publishers, museums or other cultural events. In a precise and focused way, he created his posters with a minimalist approach, using few colours and few words. “Interpenetrations and beauties that hurt; distortions, wounds: Gunter Rambow's Posters are combinations of word and image that produce knowledge through collisions.“ (V. Fischer) His posters are included in many international museums' collections such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art in New York or the Museum for Applied Arts in Frankfurt.
The catalogue combines numerous illustrations and essays, some of which deal with the surreal approach in some of his artwork and give an overview of his oevre, which is an important milestone in the history of poster design.
