Nam June Paik
(Deutsche Ausgabe)
For Nam June Paik (1932–2006), art was a permanent experiment that questioned social, political, technological, and economic processes. This publication assembles German, Anglo-American, and Asian research to provide an overview of the artist’s most essential developments, from actions and performances to videos and spectacular sculptures.
Numerous documents – musical scores, letters, texts, and photographs – contribute to an appreciation of Paik’s complicated work and ideas, as well as the conceptual core of his oeuvre. The book also shows how his close collaborations with other artists – such as the members of Fluxus, his “muse,” the legendary cellist and action artist Charlotte Moorman, and Joseph Beuys – strongly influenced the work of this trained composer and musician, co-founder of the Fluxus movement and former professor at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf.
