The ongoing development of the audiovisual media since the second half of the 20th century allowed for a creative, interchanging dialogue between dance performance and the Fine Arts. Dancers and artists of the American Avantgarde questioned the traditional relationship between music and body. They were looking for a new connection to the audience, one that turns the process itself into a work of art.

With about 100 artistic works, documentary texts and film stills as well as coloured illustrations of video- and sculptural installations the catalogue observes the interchanging references, the similarities and cooperations. Single texts discuss works by John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Nam June Paik, Robert Morris, Yvonne Rainer, Bruce Nauman, Erwin Wurm, Dan Graham and Rebecca Horn, among others.
