French artist Annette Messager (b. 1943) is one of the most important figures on the international art scene. Her large-scale installations explore the human body and its attributes. By dismembering and reassembling them into something new, she creates a cosmos that is as fascinating as it is radical.

Over more than 40 years of artistic practice, Annette Messager has developed her own distinctive, focused visual language. While she worked primarily with stuffed birds, knitted pieces, and collections of images in the early 1970s, she soon began incorporating drawings, photographs, and installations featuring stuffed animals and clothing. By collecting and stringing together the most delicate elements, she creates visually striking works that explore human identity and the gender stereotypes of our society.
This bibliophile art book, which features not only her most impressive works but also her most recent installations, is being published to accompany her first solo exhibition in a German museum in 25 years and offers the opportunity to rediscover Annette Messager’s oeuvre.
