Andrea Palladio was born in Padua in 1508 and is considered the most important architect of the Renaissance in Northern Italy. He eschewed superfluous ornamentation and favored a clear architectural style based on his ideal of Classicism. His inspiration was the architecture of ancient Rome. While he focused primarily on residential buildings, he also created several religious structures. He is regarded as one of the most influential architects in the Western world.
