In her work, Karin Hochstatter examines processes of form formation and dissolution as well as the resulting processes of visual perception. Her starting point is often inconspicuous materials from industrial-technological production contexts - such as building materials or polymer-based foils - which she transforms into fragile, yet space-expanding constellations. This transformation shifts the boundaries between everyday materiality and artistic sculpture and at the same time activates a reflection on the conditions of seeing.

This book documents works from the years 2012-20, most of which manifest themselves as singular appearances in space and understand seeing as a situational experience.

Special feature of the edition: Edition TI.w. 2025 is a two-part work in which the printed silk wrapping paper itself can become part of the installation. This thin but robust paper can be hung in various ways, folded, crumpled or smoothed out again, and can be hung in a somewhat sculptural manner in relation to the other part.

Karin Hochstatter studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy; received numerous prizes and scholarships, including the Friedrich Vordemberge Prize from the City of Cologne; exhibitions/teaching activities in Germany and abroad.
