One hundred years after George Grosz travelled to Soviet-Russia in 1922, Das Kleine Grosz Museum is dedicated to examining this hitherto unexplored event. Little information on the purpose of the expedition or the encounters and experiences George Grosz had during his four-month journey through St. Petersburg and Moscow is provided in his autobiography or academic literature. Based partly on research into Russian archives, the interdisciplinary catalogue traces, by means of numerous previously unseen works and documents, the circumstances, events, and aftermath of his journey and presents new insights into Grosz's political and artistic development during and after the Weimar Republic.
