‘A swirl of colour. Four, five or more colours - there are always many more than you might initially think - captured in a single frame. They come from the side, from below and above, from the front and behind and combine to form something like a swarm, into which the camera zooms in like a close-up; a surging and roaring and fluttering that continuously changes, clusters and dissolves again.’ (Sabine Elsa Müller)
‘Krakau's paintings work against a dulling of the senses and in favour of sharpening the subtlety that is innate and inherent in all of us. Her pictures show us the purest, first, most honest and most unalloyed form of what we experience, of bodies - of the essence that makes up things and beings at their core.’ (Elisa Mosch)
The catalogue ‘Licht durch die Bilder’ (Light through the Pictures) presents a showcase of recent works by Cologne-based painter Maja Lilian Krakau. The selection of works from the last 2-3 years shows both paintings in acrylic on canvas and paper and watercolours as well as coloured drawings, which are created parallel to the paintings.
The picture section and two catalogue texts by art historians Elisa Mosch and Sabine Elsa Müller provide an insight into the process of creating the works and the artist's working methods.
Together with one of the 10 small-format unique works in watercolour, the numbered and signed special edition is part of a limited edition.
