This new catalogue of the paintings of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), while drawing extensively on the 1939 edition published by his son, makes an innovative contribution to the understanding of the work of this great artist through the discovery of previously unpublished pictures and documents.

Over a career that spanned the second half of the 19th century, Pissarro tested every pictorial experiment of his time, from Impressionism to Pointillism. His rich style reveals the gifts of a great colorist and of a master of light endowed with a striking sensitivity to nature.

This exhaustive 3-volume catalogue, co-published with the Wildenstein Institute, features 1528 paintings—of which 213 have never been published or are little known—detailed commentaries with rigorous analyses of each work, a complete biography of the artist, illustrated with archival photographs, a bibliography and a complete list of exhibitions.

Cette édition fait suite au travail publié en 1939 par Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro, un des fils de l'artiste, en collaboration avec Lionello Venturi, historien de l'impressionnisme. Les trois volumes présentent ainsi mille cinq cent vingt-neuf peintures dont deux cent treize inédites. Un premier tome, centré sur la biographie de Pissarro, comprend une étude sur ses premières créations, une analyse des relations qu'il entretenait avec Paul Durand-Ruel, une synthèse de son art à partir des tableaux découverts dernièrement.

Les deuxième et troisième tomes constituent le coeur du catalogue raisonné avec l'étude des peintures classées chronologiquement. La bibliographie et la liste exhaustive des expositions sont situées en fin du premier volume.
