Ingo Günther's works operate on a knife-edge between art and journalism, art and politics. They analyse and react to crisis situations, rendering these both visible and transparent, they intervene in the issues of the day. Interviews and researches in numerous refugee camps across the world formed the basis of his work Refugee Republic in which the artist proposes a supra- national and supra-territorial model state, a virtual republic, where the world-wide population of refugees represents and governs itself.

In addition to World Processor - a continually expanding installation that started in 1989 and consists of over 100 lit-up globes illuminating problem spots worldwide - when the Gulf War broke out in 1990 Günther started a series of flags that soberly yet suggestively reflects political structures. REPUBLIK.COM, with essays by leading authors, is the first documentation of the three main areas of work that Ingo Günther - winner of the Stankowski Stiftung Prize in 1997 - has been pursuing since the late eighties.
