Beat Wismer wrote in the foreword: "With the present publication and the exhibition which provided its occasion, the work which Elisabeth Vary has created in the last five years is presented to an interested public in a representative selection. This selection of works created after 1993-94 is preceded by ones fromt he years 1988 to 1992 which document the artist's progression to the youngest group of works; they also show that the ripe creativity of the last decade is accompanied by no principal changes. If we would speak of development, this should be understood as an increasingly strong concentration and as an intesification and deepening in the treatment of pictorial inquiry toward a precision which an engagement open to confrontation cannot avoid.

The timing of the exhibitiom of this highly concentrated complex is, in light of the precision of the formulation, appropriate; yet it must come as a surprise, given the quality of this work and its special position among the various categories, that this represents the first solo presentation in a public exhibition institute outside Germany and - a matter of pride for us - the very first solo exhibiton for the artist in Switzerland. We are therefore pleased to be able to make an extensive presentation of this effective selection of works in the Aargauer Kunsthaus."
