Blasser Schimmer
a pale gleam
"This collection is an attempt to create a sequence from a mighty fund of thousands of possibilities, to select a few artists from many whom I ascribe the following qualities: truthfulness, seriousness, contemporaneousness, sensuality, spirituality, sensitivity, originality (distinct-ness), the will and power to create; in short, the ability to carry out a conscious artistic act.
The statement of the works collected under the aegis of the Mondstudio becomes an exam-inable result only with the appearance of this catalogue. A component of the decisions made beforehand was a process of omission compelled to lead to a very questionable, as it were, final decision: yes or no. That doesn't mean bad or good, good or better, right or wrong. I don't take it upon myself to decide such things. In the selection of works, rather, it was more a question of their arrangement within the framework of a privileged, since private, always individual, often lonely, sometimes dialectical discourse. Naturally, in the back of my mind raged the impossible question of the timelessness, validity, and lasting value of art-works. For the notion of impermanence is the balance spring of every act of collecting. At the same time, however, finiteness probably plays a key role in the origin of all artistic for-mulations. Here we are together - artist and collector: on oneside a designer ad infinitum, on the other an understanding (reverent) pay-er, a responsible owner for a finite period of time, an enthusiastic devotee."
